The Journal of Broom-Mounted Sports is an online and print publication with the following mission statement:
To develop a regular publication with the twin goals of producing content on playing broom-mounted sports in an easily absorbed manner for new and aspiring players, and creating a forum for scientific inquiry into the playing, coaching, and refereeing theory and practice for the purposes of developing the sports.
JBMS Mission Statement
A publication for the JBMS should be dedicated to advancing one or both of these goals. Anyone is invited to submit an article for publication, so long as it falls within the publication guidelines. The article must also identify the field(s) it falls within.
Fields include but are not limited to:
- Play Technique
- Coaching Technique
- Refereeing Technique
- Team Management
- Tournament Directing
- Strategic Theory
- And many more, refer to the Content Expert page
Once submitted, the article is first reviewed by the editorial board of the JBMS. The editorial board evaluates the articles for adherence to the mission statement and to the publication guidelines, and will notify the writer(s) that their article is “passed to review,” “rejected with invitation to reapply,” or “rejected with fundamental inconsistency with JBMS mission.”
Articles passed to review are then sent to at least two content experts who are designated as well-regarded in the field(s) that the article is written in. The articles are sent to experts in compliance with their volunteer load by the editorial board, and content experts may not generally review their own paper. These content experts will return to the editorial board one of the following verdicts (anonymously at their option):
- Approved for publication
- Approved for publication with modifications (sent back to writer for rewriting)
- Rejected, but with suggestions for resubmission
- Rejected with fundamental flaws
Approved articles are then published in the JBMS. The publication schedule is subject to change but is planned to be quarterly, with a publication every three months. The publication is made online, and print copies can then be purchased to financially support the organization and to bring the knowledge to new teams that are just starting their development.
Advertisements and sponsorships are available for publication in the JBMS to financially support the organization and meet expenses. No financial conflict of interest will be tolerated, and any advertisement may not be co-published in the same issue as any articles that any individual involved with the advertisement played any role in writing or reviewing.
For the JBMS to function, the following are called for:
- Volunteers
- Content Experts
- Article Information
- All members are subject to the behavior guidelines listed here.
The JBMS is founded by Alejandro Enriquez. The full Constitution of the JBMS is here and fully details the positions, protocols and procedures of the JBMS.
