Submit an Article

Articles published in the Journal of Broom-Mounted Sports may be written and submitted by anyone (including you!) and they will be reviewed for publication. No credentials or qualifications are required by any author for an article to be submitted, but articles must adhere to publication guidelines in order to be eligible for publication. Articles can be submitted at this link.

Articles may fall into any of several categories:

  • Letter
    • A letter to the editors, not evaluated from an academic peer review persective but instead an observation from playing, coaching or refereeing quidditch that is of interest to the quidditch community
    • Must be straightforward and informed
    • A topic of particular interest is the impact of newly implemented rule changes on gameplay after experiencing it in live play
      • 2-arm tackling, different endgame rules, player protection rules, difficulties in refereeing, etc.
    • Works will still be edited for clarity
  • Essentials
    • Articles written for the new and developing quidditch player and team, on any subject that would properly benefit quidditch novices.
    • Must be straightforward, easy to read, and illustrated.
  • Communication
    • Articles attempting to establish norms of communication for ideas related to quidditch, including quidditch theory and quidditch strategy.
    • Value judgments must be avoided, restricting the discussion to the methods and benefits of the proposed communication.
  • Primary research
    • Research conducted and presented by the original author(s).
    • This research may be of any kind and any size study but must have an appropriately thorough analysis.
  • Review
    • Articles summarizing the findings of other peer-review journals and adapting their findings to the quidditch community.

All of these articles are valuable contributions to the quidditch community and are welcome to be submitted! Be sure to include good contact information, because once the article is submitted the review and editing process begins and that process is a two way street!

The complete publication guidelines are written here. The form to submit articles is linked here. Once submitted, articles are first reviewed by the Editorial Board using the Editor Review Guidelines. If approved at this stage, the article is then reviewed by the Content Experts of the applicable fields of knowledge using the Content Expert Review Guidelines. Once the article passes both of these reviews it is approved for publication, though it will still be reviewed by a Copy Editor. At any stage, rejection with guidance for resubmission may occur, and these conversations will be held via email, so be attentive to your email once you submit your article!
